Cookies on PubsMap
Cookies are small files that help websites work. PubsMap uses only essential cookies for account features, such as keeping you signed in and helping keep your account secure. You can browse the pub map without logging in.
Because these cookies are needed for the services you choose to use, we don't ask for separate permission to use them. They are generally kept for the duration of your browser session, although your sign-in may end sooner.
We don't use advertising or optional visitor-tracking cookies on PubsMap. External map providers may have their own practices, as explained below.
You can remove or block cookies in your browser settings. If you do, signing in and some account features may stop working.
Information we handle
- Accounts: username, email address, sign-in information, email verification status and account permissions.
- Pub activity: pubs you submit, favourites, recorded visits, reports and submitted photographs. Public profiles and pub pages can show usernames and contributions.
- Security and requests: information used to verify accounts, reset passwords, prevent misuse and investigate problems. Our server logs may include technical details such as IP addresses.
- Location: if you tap a location control or use the Add Pub location feature, your browser may share your location with the page. PubsMap uses it to centre a map or help enter a pub location; it is not a background location tracker.
Account data is used to provide the service you register for. Security, abuse prevention, moderation and reliable operation rely on legitimate interests in protecting and running PubsMap. Contact us if you need details of how these bases apply to a particular use of your data.
Maps and external services
Our maps use OpenStreetMap map tiles and Leaflet code served by unpkg. Loading these resources contacts their servers and can disclose technical information such as your IP address. When adding a pub, address lookup can also contact OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Opening driving directions takes you to Google Maps, which has its own privacy rules.
Browsers may retain map tiles and other resources in their normal cache. PubsMap's code does not use these external services for advertising or analytics, but we cannot control the cookies or processing policies of third parties. See their published privacy notices for details.
How long information is kept
Account information, visits and favourites are kept while your account is active. You can delete your account from the bottom of your private profile. Its visits and favourites are removed; pubs you contributed remain on the public map under the PubsMap account.
Verification links expire after 24 hours and password-reset links after one hour. Logs, moderation records and database backups may be retained for operational, security or recovery purposes. Exact backup/log retention depends on site and hosting configuration; contact us for current details or to request erasure of personal data where applicable.
Your choices and rights
You can manage your account through your profile. For privacy questions or requests relating to your personal information, including access, correction or deletion where applicable, email team@pubsmap.uk.
